CHAPTER 1179"Nerona Imu Descends"
Sunday, April 5, 2026

one piece 1179 - Nerona Imu Descends

A comprehensive account of the latest events from the Grand Line

Imu ignores the Five Elders and personally descends to Elbaph after tracing the chain of threats that led here. While Zoro pegs the Holy Knights’ steel hearts as the trick to stopping their regen and the chapter hints only Ragnir can thaw Ragnir’s ice, the real bombshell is the ending: Imu’s arrival warps the environment and finally reveals Saint Nerona Imu in full.

Black-and-white end-page reveal of Saint Nerona Imu looming over Aurust Castle, framed like the final boss finally got tired of subtweeting. The mood is apocalyptic and theatrical.

Community Reaction

The voice of the One Piece faithful

Overwhelmingly Positive

Fans went feral for the reveal and the atmosphere; the only real grumbling was about a few scaling/characterization quibbles getting drowned under the demon king entrance.

Celebrated Moments

  • Those folks who said “stay away from all spoilers”? Whoever you are, thank you. This chapter hit like a train.
  • AFTER 273 CHAPTERS AND 8 YEARS, WE FINALLY HAVE THE FULL DESIGN OF SAINT IMU OF HOUSE NERONA REVEALED!
  • Absolutely loved the vibe of all the houses and trees coming alive to herald his arrival. Like Big Mom's homies, but somehow more sinister
  • CHAPTER 1179 IS OFFICIALLY OUT 👁️🔥 The wait is over… the English version is finally here. And this chapter did NOT disappoint.

Points of Contention

  • I’m not sure how I feel about the bad guys caring about each other.
  • A- Imu specifically targeted them B- The Willpower of all the adults are way to strong to be knocked out C- Oda is a hack when it comes to Haki scaling
  • Hot take Imu's design is mid, not even above average. Oda was so lazy he just mixed two races together, added a tail,
A warped Elbaph streetscape with trees and wooden homes seeming to wake up and sing around Imu’s presence, matching the fandom’s mix of awe, panic, and delighted screaming.

Theory of the week

Imu Is Bound to Mary Geoise

The chapter’s blood-coughing and the Elders’ panic suggest Imu can descend, but only by paying a nasty physical price. Fans think Mary Geoise is either a life-support anchor, a seal, or the only place where Imu can safely hold that form together.

Supporting Evidence

  • The Five Elders beg Imu not to 'descend to the Lower World,' which reads like a warning, not routine caution.
  • Imu coughs up blood immediately after arriving in Elbaph.
  • Multiple fans and reviewers independently read the scene as a built-in time limit.

Counter Arguments

  • The damage could come from the teleportation method rather than distance from Mary Geoise itself.
  • Imu has used vessels and covenants before, so the limit may be about this specific transformed body.

Imu Spawned the Devil Fruits

Fans seized on the bizarre label 'the devil’s fruit' and started yelling the same thing: this is not just a fruit name, it is origin-story language. The theory says Imu either created Devil Fruits, embodies their root power, or carries the first one that all the others branch from.

Imu Is a Racial Chimera

A whole wing of the fandom looked at Imu and went 'that man is built out of other people’s nightmares.' The argument is that the horns, skin, wings, scale, and markings point to an amalgam of persecuted races rather than one clean lineage.

Blackbeard Counters Imu

This theory says chapter 1179 quietly hung a giant 'Teach this way' sign over the endgame. If Imu is the source-tier Devil Fruit monster, then Blackbeard’s fruit-stealing, nullifying nonsense suddenly looks less like side villain greed and more like the perfect anti-Imu toolkit.

Imu Is the Forest God

This one came screaming out of the woodwork because only the wooden parts of Elbaph seem to 'respond' to Imu’s arrival. The theory paints Imu as the Forest God or a root-power counterpart to Nika’s sun symbolism, which would make the final clash feel mythically symmetrical instead of just strong-guy versus stronger-guy.

The Flood Was Meant to Cage Imu

Instead of pinning the ancient sea rise on Imu, this theory says the flood may have been caused by somebody else to make the world hostile to a devil-linked ruler. In the spiciest version, Joy Boy flooded it on purpose so Imu could never properly rule the world he stole.

Best

Crafted Theory

Imu Spawned the Devil Fruits

The wording oddity is real, the payoff would rewire the whole power system, and the theory actually explains why fans all screamed at the same translation choice instead of just staring at the horns.

Wild

Wildest Theory of the Week

The Flood Was Meant to Cage Imu

It takes chapter 1179’s sea-weakness chatter and turns the Void Century into a giant anti-Imu booby trap, which is exactly the kind of audacious nonsense that might either age like wine or explode on contact.

Fun

Funniest Theory

Enel Saves Luffy With Moon Robots

This is peak crack-food because it hijacks a serious Marineford-parallel theory and then swerves straight into Enel descending from the moon like he forgot he left a side quest unfinished.

Worst

Worst Theory of the Week

Imu Is the First Sun God

It bulldozes straight through the chapter’s Nika contrast, stacks symbolism until it wheezes, and still couldn’t scare up a single comment to help carry the body.

Morgan's Own Theory

Garling Is Preparing a Palace Coup

Garling’s calm support for Imu leaving is not loyalty; it is opportunity. Chapter 1179 looks like the moment he starts positioning himself to seize control of Mary Geoise if Imu’s descent goes badly or exposes a weakness he can exploit.

Supporting Evidence

  • The other Elders are visibly alarmed about Imu leaving, but Garling is the one voice not trying to stop it.
  • Mary Geoise is already unstable: food shortages, York, the Mother Flame, and a rattled command structure are all in play this chapter.
  • Garling has already been framed as more aggressive and less deferential than the older Gorosei group.
  • Chapter 1179 splits the board in a way that leaves the throne room politically vulnerable for the first time in ages.

Chain of Reasoning

If Imu is physically compromised away from the Holy Land, Garling has every incentive to let that weakness fully manifest while he consolidates power at home. He does not need to openly betray Imu yet; he just needs to make sure the palace belongs to him if the king comes back limping. That would also explain why Oda keeps writing him with a shark-smile while everybody else is sweating.
