A whole wing of the fandom looked at Imu and went 'that man is built out of other people’s nightmares.' The argument is that the horns, skin, wings, scale, and markings point to an amalgam of persecuted races rather than one clean lineage.
This theory says chapter 1179 quietly hung a giant 'Teach this way' sign over the endgame. If Imu is the source-tier Devil Fruit monster, then Blackbeard’s fruit-stealing, nullifying nonsense suddenly looks less like side villain greed and more like the perfect anti-Imu toolkit.

Instead of pinning the ancient sea rise on Imu, this theory says the flood may have been caused by somebody else to make the world hostile to a devil-linked ruler. In the spiciest version, Joy Boy flooded it on purpose so Imu could never properly rule the world he stole.

Garling’s calm support for Imu leaving is not loyalty; it is opportunity. Chapter 1179 looks like the moment he starts positioning himself to seize control of Mary Geoise if Imu’s descent goes badly or exposes a weakness he can exploit.
If Imu is physically compromised away from the Holy Land, Garling has every incentive to let that weakness fully manifest while he consolidates power at home. He does not need to openly betray Imu yet; he just needs to make sure the palace belongs to him if the king comes back limping. That would also explain why Oda keeps writing him with a shark-smile while everybody else is sweating.
